Abstract
In this study, thermal property and dry sliding wear of A359 matrix hybrid composites produced by squeeze casting technique were investigated. These composites were reinforced with 5, 10 and 15 wt. % (SiC + Si3N4) particles. A359/(SiC + Si3N4) wear behaviors are accomplished using load rang of 20‒60 N and a sliding speed of 2,75 m/s. It was noticed that, A359/(SiC + Si3N4) composites have relatively lower thermal conductivity as compared to A359 alloy. However, wear results showed that, A359/(SiC + Si3N4) exhibited superior wear resistance in comparison to A359 alloy. Friction Coefficients and contact surface temperatures for A359/(SiC + Si3N4) specimens increased as (SiC + Si3N4) content increased. Investigations of worn surfaces revealed that A359/(SiC + Si3N4) composites were covered up iron oxides, which acted as self lubricant layers. The superior wear resistance of the developed A359/ (SiC + Si3N4) composites provided a durable material suitable for automotive applications.
