Abstract

The investigating results of the mullite‒ZrO2‒SiAlON ceramics formation out of the oxide mixtures with the nano-powder SiAlON addition in the course of the reactive spark-plasma-sintering (SPS) are given in comparison with the characteristics of the same ceramics obtained by the conventional sintering. It was shown that the ceramics obtained by SPS-process after 10 thermal shock cycles comparing to the conventional one has the elevated density (3,10‒3,32 gram per cubic centimeter), the ultmate compressive strength (295‒305 MPa), and high elasticity modulus (170‒180 MPa). The reason of this is the forming of mullite developments with closed-packed structure in the microstructure of the sintered samples, comprising the cubic ZrO2 inclusions.
