Abstract

A lot of opinions exist about which refractory aggregate is the most preferable for some or other field of application. The hardened ideas about the comparative advantages of the artificial fused and sintered high-alumina  materials commonly are difficult to be disputed and challenged. From the other hand the changing at the refractory raw materials market during the last few years had an impact on the modern artificial high-alumina materials and gave rise to the new kinds of aggregates. In the article the attempt is made to analyze the differences between various high-alumina fused and sintered raw materials with the focus on their physical properties: density, porosity and grain shape. The influence of the aggregate on the finishing properties of the refractory materials such as  refractory items, concretes and dry ramming mixtures also are regarded.
