Abstract

The key technological factors determining the formation of granulometric composition of highly dispersed alpha-alumina powders in the process of thermal treatment of feedstock have been researched. The decisive influence of temperature modes of synthesis and concentration of Cr2O3 additive on phase transformations and structural and morphological characteristics of reactive alumina is shown. The fact of formation of thermodynamically stable primary crystals of alpha aluminum oxide with a characteristic mode of 0.5 μm has been established for the first time. Technological principles of thermal synthesis of reactive alpha-alumina with predictable particle size distribution have been developed.
